It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as guest editor for this Musculoskeletal Radiology issue of the JAOCR. I would like to especially thank Editor-in-Chief Dr. Daniel Wale, the JAOCR editorial staff, and the AOCR for allowing me this opportunity.
This body of work is the result of a collaborative effort on the part of the staff of musculoskeletal radiologists of Kettering Network Radiologists, Inc., who serve as faculty for the Grandview/Kettering Health Network Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program, as well as one of our orthopedic colleagues, Dr. Matthew Heckler.
In the first review article, Drs. Roland Gazaille, Matthew Heckler, and Rahul Rao bring clarity to the many acronyms used to describe the pathology associated with anterior and posterior glenohumeral joint instability. We hope this will serve as a robust review and/or reference for general and musculoskeletal radiologists who interpret MRI and MRA of the shoulder.
In the second review article, Drs. Gazaille and Heckler provide an overview of the novel surgical technique known as the superior capsular reconstruction. As this technique becomes more common, it is of utmost importance for general and diagnostic radiologists to understand the rationale behind the procedure, the surgical technique itself, and the imaging presentation of postoperative complications.
The third piece consists of a case-based review article written by Drs. Gazaille and Matthew Kinzie, which brings to light a rare complication associated with arthrography, a common procedure performed in the radiology department.
In the fourth article, Drs. Gazaille, Aakash Singh and Jeffrey Nielson provide a case-based review of the differential diagnosis of bilateral posterior mediastinal masses.
Our At the Viewbox offerings include two interesting cases from our robust teaching file thanks to the efforts of Drs. Gazaille, Michael Caccamo, and Jennifer Evans.
In conclusion, I would like to thank my colleagues for their contributions and insight in putting this edition together. I would also like to thank our families for their unconditional love, support and understanding while undertaking this project as well as throughout our careers.
